October holds a special place in the hearts of many. Every year in October, we come across numerous stories of wonder women battling breast cancer and see pink ribbons everywhere. But why does this month have so much significance?

The reason that this month is well-known and recognized as Breast Cancer Awareness Month and is celebrated worldwide. The mission of celebrating this month is to encourage women to find the cure and fight against this serious ailment.

With the passage of time, this ailment has risen in popularity. In fact, it has been estimated that about 1 out of 8 women in the U.S. suffer from this disease once in their lifetime.

One of the studies also found that about 85% of women who develop breast cancer don’t have any previous family history of having this disease. Due to the rapid increase of this disease, October has become the month for raising awareness regarding the issue in order to protect human lives from this ailment in the early stages.

In observance of breast cancer awareness, considering our female employees’ well-being, TekRevol organized a breast cancer awareness session at its workplace. The activity was held on 7^th October 2022 at our TekRevol’s cafeteria premises. The dress code was white and pink alongside pink ribbons.

The primary objective of this session was to spread awareness about breast cancer and the importance of early detection and annual screening.

Guest Speakers

In order to shed light on the importance of this serious disease and to cover different symptoms and misconceptions about breast cancer, TekRevol invited two Keynote Guest speakers, Dr. Qurat ul Ain Badar, Oncologist at Ziauddin Hospital, and Miss Muntaha Zia, Clinical Psychologist.

Both of the guests highlighted the importance of breast cancer awareness and how to prevent its growth in the early stages. They provided an overview of the importance of early detection, followed by the awareness of diagnostic tools that could assist in preserving this disease, as well as the screening methods.

Besides, they have emphasized the importance of going for the annual screening – a mammogram once a year or after every 6 months.

Furthermore, they discussed the risks and prevention techniques associated with this ailment.

Moreover, they also elaborated on the importance of available technologies and surgical options in order to treat this ailment. Lastly, and most importantly, they covered the methods to self-examine this ailment at any time, at any part of the day, and that too, in the comfort of homes.

Purpose & Takeaways of the Session

The purpose of this session was to spread awareness regarding breast cancer, including signs and symptoms, risks associated with it, and how to prevent its spread in the early stages.

Our guest speakers, Dr. Qurat Ul Ain Badar and Miss Muntaha Zia concluded this session by encouraging our female employees to look after their health, meditate, and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Overall, it was an informative and enlightening session. In the end, everyone was served fresh confectionaries, themed cupcakes, and snacks.
